Joyce Mason

Joyce Mason joined Pardee Homes in 1994 as Vice President of Marketing and has led the company to a leadership position in energy efficiency and green building, strategically strengthening Pardee Homes’ brand in the process. She brings more than 25 years experience in marketing and homebuilding to her responsibilities, which include directing the marketing, merchandising, advertising, public relations and brand development for the Los Angeles-based builder/developer. A pioneer in production green building, she has more than 10 years experience in research and development and execution of energy- and environmentally friendly building. Recognized nationally as an expert in this field, she was a judge of the Solar Decathlon in Washington, D.C, in 2007. Her many energy- and green-related accomplishments at Pardee Homes include the following:

Mason piloted the ENERGY STARŪ for Homes program in Pardee Homes’ most severe climate area and developed the ENERGY STARŪ program for Pardee’s other markets, leading eventually to Pardee Homes becoming the first multi-regional homebuilder to embrace 100% ENERGY STARŪ compliance in 2002. Pardee earned four consecutive ENERGY STARŪ Partner of the Year awards. Concurrently, based on more than two years of research, Mason created and launched the industry’s most comprehensive packaged energy and environmental program to date called LivingSmart™. This Pardee Homes brand offers homebuyers features and options that are EarthSmart™, EnergySmart™, and HealthSmart™. WaterSmart™ was added to the brand in 2005 in response to regional water shortages. She directed the company’s participation as a pioneer in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Homes program and the California Energy Commission’s California Zero Energy New Homes program.

Mason has forged positive relationships with key governmental and regulatory agencies, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Energy, California Department of Energy, Metropolitan Water District and the Southern Nevada Water Authority, the Sierra Club, among others. She has also strengthened relationships with jurisdictions and planning agencies in markets where Pardee Homes builds, facilitating future entitlement.

She has guided Pardee Homes’ environmental and energy program to win numerous prestigious energy and environmental awards at the local, state, regional and national levels as well as the company’s participation in ABC’s award-winning Extreme Makeover: Home Edition series; and the first Zero Energy home built for the IBS Show in 2004.

Mason received San Diego Corporate EARTH Award as an individual and was honored with the B.J Stewart Award for career achievement by the Southern California Building Industry Association.
